The DCB500 is a modem transceiver for multi-point multiplex communication network over noisy DC power-line. The device has a flexible Asynchronous (UART) and Synchronous (SPI) interfaces with host controllers commonly used in the automotive environment.
Messages from Electronic Control Unit (ECU) are stored in the internal transmit FIFO. The data is then coded by a strong error correction code especially designed to meet the power-line typical channel burst noises, and is modulated by a differential QPSK modulator that drives the noisy line (through a passive filter).

The DC-BUS system consists of up to 16 modem devices (nodes). It provides services required to implement communication bus network. The DC-BUS multiplex network operate as a CSMA channel dedicated for data, control and even voice communication over noisy DC power-line. Main characteristics are:

Number of nodes: Up to 16 nodes per channel
The DCB500 device implements the power-line communication physical layer and part of the link layer (Modem, Channel coder, basic protocol). The transceiver has built-in CSMA mechanism for multiplex network operation. The DCB500 operates over a pre selected channel. Its SPI synchronous and Asynchronous UART interfaces enable transfer of unlimited length of data over DC power-line reducing dramatically the overhead associated with other protocols. It specially applicable for transfer of large files such as voice, MP3 music and compressed video.
