The QDC10 modem device is a member of the DC-BUS family of multiplex communication network devices for serial data communication between different electronic systems over their DC power-line saving the costs of vehicle harness. The semiconductor devices were specially designed for low cost multiplex network of multi-point control and data communication for automotive Mechatronics applications to locations such as the vehicle steering-wheel, security-immobilizer, doors, etc. withstanding the noises on the battery lines.

The CMOS low power device receive and transmit data messages of up to 16 bytes between variety of sensors and actuators in a vehicle. The devices provide an alternative physical layer to system designers with a simple link and application layers.
The user friendly interfaces, flexible hardware and software mechanism associated with new generation of units connected through the QDC10 modem devices simplifies installation of ECUs, cable and wire reduction as well as the installation costs.
The QDC10 devices are useful where connector pins are limited and for sensor / actuator applications such as temperature control, Door ECU, pressure sensor, combining power and data over the same cable, withstanding the hostile DC power-line communication channel conditions.

The system serves up to 16 devices, each of them can multiplex data messages to other devices on the bus. The device is controlled by its host ECU via serial synchronous communication. Technically speaking, the QDC10 system is a Carrier Sense Multiple Access (CSMA) Collision Resolution system using a dedicated frequencies for Data and Control transfer between the devices. The rest of the spectrum is reserved for higher speed channels and for multimedia communication over the same DC power-line.
The QDC10 devices are responsible to transfer messages to destination devices. A message consists of 2 to 16 data bytes. The device handles the communication physical layer and part of link layer (Modem, Channel coder, Carrier sense, Collision Resolution, basic protocol).
QDC10 device has serial port for synchronous serial data transfer between device and its Host.
