The overall goal of SPARC is to substantially improve traffic
safety and efficiency for heavy goods vehicles by the integration of intelligent x-by-wire
technologies into the power train. There are about 40.000 fatal accidents on Europe's
roads each year, most accidents (about 75%) are caused only by human errors. It is the
ambition of the European Commission to decrease this number by one half until the year
2010.
The SPARC-consortium consists of the coordinator DaimlerChrysler AG and 23 European partner members who are all leaders in their own field and will bring all their relevant experience into the project. Each of the partners has a specific area of competence and well defined role in his project. Thus SPARC will play an essential role in order to reach the European Commissions target.
Yamar provides to the program power-line communication networks. The powerline is used as a redundant and alternative physical layer for bus multiplex networks using the CAN and LIN protocols. It allows reduction of the harness size and weight.
